Terms
The terms every job runs on.
These are the same terms printed on your quote. Nothing here is a surprise clause and there's nothing in small print.
Paying for the work
What you pay up front depends on the size of the job. Your quote says which of these applies to you and puts the dollar figures on it.
- Small items: no deposit. I do the work and invoice you on delivery.
- Most jobs: a deposit, paid before work starts, with the figure written on your quote.
- Larger jobs: a deposit before work starts, then nothing more until I've put the concepts in front of you. The day the concepts are delivered, 30% of the quoted price is due. The balance is due before the site goes live or the final files are released. Which band you are in, and the dollar figures, are on your quote.
- When I offer print, it's paid in full up front, or with a deposit that at least covers what the printer charges me. See Printing below.
The 30% is for producing the concepts and putting them in front of you, not for you liking them. Your included changes come after it and they're still included. "Nothing more" covers the work in your quote. Anything outside it is priced before it starts, as the Revisions and changes section says. Once the concepts are with you, you have ten business days to give me your feedback. Days the concepts sit with you don't count toward the build timeline. The clock pauses while I'm waiting on you.
Work that isn't quoted as a fixed price is billed by the hour, at the hourly rate written on your quote. Where it's worth doing, I'll give you an estimate of the hours up front. It's invoiced on delivery, or in stages if the job runs long.
- Where a deposit applies, no deposit, no work. That goes for everyone.
- No GST is added. The studio is not registered for GST.
- Prices quoted hold for 14 days from the date of the quote.
- If you start on a smaller dish and move up later, the pages already built carry over and I quote only the difference.
- Work required in under five business days carries a rush surcharge of 50% on top of the quoted price. It's quoted as its own line before the job starts, never added afterwards.
The 5% code
- A code found on the homepage takes 5% off the build price in your quote. One code per business.
- Put it on your docket, or tell me before you pay the deposit, and it shows on your quote as its own line.
- It doesn't apply to care plans, hourly work, rush surcharges or anything already invoiced.
What you own, and when
- Your domain is in your name. A new one is registered that way, on your email address, from the start. One you already own stays exactly where it is. Either way, it's yours whether you stay with me or not.
- On final payment, the design work I've made for you is yours outright, to use wherever you like for as long as you like. That covers the logo and the brand files, and your brand is entirely yours.
- A website's source code is included in that.
- Editable master files, meaning the .ai, .fig and Canva working files behind the finished artwork, aren't part of a job unless your quote says so. You can buy them separately, and I'd rather you knew that now than on the way out.
- What I build from stays mine. My templates, components and code are the toolkit I reuse on every job, so they don't transfer with the work. None of it is your brand.
- Where your quote includes Google Business Profile setup, I do it with you, in person or remotely, whichever suits you, and you're set up as the profile's owner rather than a manager. The owner part matters because a manager can't recover a listing. Doing it with you matters because Google's verification wants someone from the business present, often for a live video walk-through, and a botched attempt can suspend the listing before it exists. The session is booked as part of the build.
- I host the site, so the hosting account is mine and there's no hosting login to hand you. What you get if you leave is set out under Care plans below.
- Until final payment, the work remains the studio's property.
Fonts and images
- Identity work uses open-licensed typefaces, which in practice means Google Fonts. They're free, you keep them for good, and you can hand them to whoever works on your brand next.
- If a job genuinely needs a commercial typeface, you buy that licence in your own name. I'll say so before I use it, not at handover.
- Every image is one I've made or generated, one that's open-licensed, or one you've supplied. I don't use studio-licensed stock, because that licence would name me rather than you and it wouldn't travel with your site.
- Images I generate for your job come to you with whatever rights I hold in them, and a permanent right to use, change and reuse them however you like. The law on who owns a machine-made image isn't settled, so I won't promise more than I hold.
How I use AI
I use AI tools to draft copy and code, to help with research, and to generate some images, which I then work by hand. Nothing AI writes or makes reaches you until I've read it and approved it, and the logo mark is never AI-generated. What you send me can pass through those tools while I do your job, on accounts I control, and I don't give your material to anyone to train an AI model. This site is built the same way.
Timelines
- All timelines are business days, counted from the day I have your deposit and your content.
- Your quote gives the number of days. A No. 1 is usually live in 7 business days and a No. 2 in 14. A shop (No. 3) is quoted to its size.
- If your content arrives late, the clock starts late. The clock pauses while content or changes are with you, and starts again the day they're back with me. I'll tell you the new date when that happens rather than let it slip quietly.
Revisions and changes
- Website builds: while your site's being built, changes are unlimited within the agreed scope. The delivery clock pauses while changes are with you.
- After you sign it off, you get two changes in the first 30 days. A change is one round of small edits sent together.
- Logos, brand kits and other design work: two rounds of revisions are included.
- Past any of that it's billed by the hour at the rate on your quote, and I quote it before I do it.
- New work added mid-build is priced before it starts. Nothing gets absorbed silently and nothing lands on the final bill that you haven't already agreed to.
What you supply
- Text, photos, logos and any licence or accreditation details you want shown.
- You confirm you have the right to use anything you send me. If you supply an image you don't own the rights to, that's on you.
Printing
- I don't offer printing yet. It's coming, and the terms for it will be on this page before I take a single print job.
- When I offer print, it's paid in full up front, or with a deposit that at least covers what the printer charges me. That's the one kind of job with no smaller deposit band, because the run is paid for before it's made.
- Until then, anything meant for print goes to you as print-ready files and you take them to a printer of your choosing.
- Printed colour never matches a screen exactly. Where the colour matters, ask your printer for a proof before the run.
- Artwork you supply for print is your responsibility to have the rights to.
Care plans
- Care Basic and Care Plus are month to month, at the monthly price written on your quote.
- Included content changes are up to half an hour a month on Care Basic and an hour on Care Plus. Anything larger is quoted first.
- Cancel whenever you like. There's no notice period. You pay out the month you're in, counted from the day your site went live, and nothing after it.
- Within 14 days of leaving you get a full copy of your site and everything on it, at no charge, plus written confirmation that your domain and DNS are already yours to control.
Ending a job early
If you pull out before I've started, everything you've paid comes back in full. Nothing started means nothing kept.
Once work has started, what you've paid stays paid. I don't refund any of it, and I don't invoice you for a stage the job never reached. If the concepts have been delivered, the 30% was due on delivery, so it still stands whether you carry on or not. If the build is underway, everything paid to that point is kept. Nothing beyond that is ever owed.
On a job with no deposit, nothing is owed if it ends early. I don't bill you for time already spent and nothing further falls due.
None of that touches your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. I can't sign those away and I haven't tried to.
Showing your job
I can show work I've made for you in my portfolio and my marketing. If you'd rather I didn't, say so and I won't. You don't need to give me a reason.
Consumer guarantees
Nothing anywhere on this page excludes, restricts or changes any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law. That applies to every section on this page, top to bottom, wherever you happen to be reading. Where anything here reads as though it limits those rights, it doesn't, and it can't.
