About · Batemans Bay NSW

Ten years of keeping brands on the road.

I'm Chris Murdock. I make websites and brands for businesses, new and established, big or small, and I answer the phone.

The short version

The story.

  1. 2016

I started out studying web design at uni. In 2016 I sent a Canberra air-conditioning business one of my first logos, then built its first website and did all of its graphics. I've been making websites and brands ever since.

  2. A couple of years later

The owners, Matt & Monika, asked me to come and work in the business. That's where I learned how a business actually runs: the long days, the quotes that go out late at night, the customer who judges you in ten seconds.

  3. These days

I'm back studying too, online through Charles Sturt, fitted in around family life.

  4. Now

I run Combination Soup Studio from Batemans Bay. My wife Emily chimes in with artistic guidance and lends a hand behind the scenes.

What you get

How I work.

  • You deal with me.

No ticket numbers, no handing you around. When you ring the number on this site, I answer it.

  • Fixed price, in writing.

You know what it costs before I start.

  • Business days, with a start date.

I tell you when the clock starts, and I stick to it. I don't work weekends, so I won't promise them.

  • Plain English.

If a word needs a dictionary, I'll cut it or explain it.

Proof

A brand that lasted.

Anyone can show you a logo on a screen. Here's one still working a decade after I made it, and the people who've trusted me since.

A decade on the vansTwo years alongside

I sent Matt McDonald his logo in 2016. They're in Canberra, I'm in Batemans Bay, and the distance has never been the problem.

That brand is still on the vans today, on jobs I've never heard about, in streets I'll never drive down. A brand is only worth something if it keeps showing up after the invoice is paid, and this one has.

The owners and I also worked alongside each other for two years. I wasn't a supplier they rang when something broke. I was in the business with them, learning how their days went, so the work fit the way they actually ran things. I ran the scheduling on ServiceM8 day to day while the team grew from six to eleven through COVID.
